The New York State Department of Education and the Regents Reform Agenda are violating the lawful rights of students with disabilities. The current implementation of ANY standardized curriculum and assessments (including but not limited to the Common Core) is a clear violation of IDEA, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Students with disabilities in New York State are being denied their right to a free and appropriate public education every day in public school. On standardized tests; appropriate waivers, modifications, and accomodations, as well as alternate assessments must be implemented in accordance with the individual student's IEP/504. For curriculum implementation, developmentally appropriate material must be the standard, including individually appropriate modifications and accomodations for each student, according to his IEP/504.
The money raised through your donations will aid us in retaining an attorney to begin this fight in the courts and legislature of New York State. Once the retainer fund is met, all other donations will be used to cover any ongoing expenses directly related to this case. If we don't meet our goal, all donations will be returned, minus the processing fees.
