Emma was diagnosed at 9 months of age with a cancerous tumor in her liver.   Due to the substantial size, it was necessary for Emma to have a liver transplant.  By God's grace she has been living life to the fullest  for the past 5 years.  Recently, she began not feeling well and her skin was jaundice.  She was evaluated at Boston Children's where it was determined that her body was rejecting her liver.  Treatments are currently being tried however she is still showing rejection.
Quote from Gina, Emma's mom:
"We have received word from Boston tonight that Emma's blood work has shown no improvement.  At this time they believe she has a steroid resistant rejection.  We will be going back to Boston tomorrow. They will be doing a biopsy and pic line placement Friday morning and then she will begin another type of treatment that we need to be inpatient for for 2 weeks. This treatment will make Emma very very sick!"30590392_1528935673374962_r.jpeg
Gina will not be able to work until Emma is stabilized.  Our goal is for their needs to be met so that Gina and John can focus solely on advocating and caring for Emma.
Current and projected needs for the family:
*Prayer
*Financial assistance for hotel stays in Boston, meals, gas
*Finances to offset medical expenses

Since Emma's last Biopsy we have been told that it showed scar tissue build up, which is a side effect left over from the rejection. We are continuing to monitor her blood work once a week. Last Monday 8/13 her AST and ALT had gone up slightly. This can possibly be attributed to her being sick at the beginning of last week. Her Bilirubin is now back to normal! The GGTP is also down from the 900's to the 600's (normal is double digits). This is a good improvement but we still have a way to go. As of right now we are waiting to hear about this weeks blood work and know that she is scheduled to go in for a repeat ERCP to replace the stint on September 18th.

Hello,

Thank you all again for all your support and prayers. I was able to pin the Doctors down yesterday and really hash out the plan for Emma. As of right now she received another dose of her Thymmo yesterday and the hope is that that is what her body needs to really get her numbers moving in the right direction again. She is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow morning at 10am and will need to be sedated for the procedure. They will specifically be looking at her Bile ducts to make sure that there are no blockages or scar tissue build up that will impede her progress to get better. The plan is to then discharge us on Friday. They will remove the PICC Line while Emma is awake and aware on Friday which is already making her very nervous. We will then go for blood work twice a week back home and continue to pray that her numbers eventually return to normal. She will be on a bunch of additional medications and more than likely wont be able to be around crowds for a while.

Good Morning everyone,

I have been trying to wait until I had more to report however that doesn't seem to be the plan. As of right now the Doctors have a lot of questions but unfortunately not a lot of answers. Emma looks good (except for being yellow) and acts good however her Liver is not responding to this treatment like the Doctors had originally hoped. I have been told that her response is very a typical and that the hope is that it is just taking longer to return to normal than they expected. However they have now called Immunology in to consult on her case to see if they can pinpoint a possible underlying autoimmune disorder that could be the culprit to her bodies unusual response.

Right now it is a big waiting game. They are still doing blood work daily. She is still receiving a high dose of steroids every day as well.

Please continue to pray for us out here.

Emma has had a great couple of days. She is responding very well to the treatments with little to no side effects!! She has also been loving all of the amazing volunteers here at the hospital. She also got to meet a few of the new rookies for the Patriots since we've been here!!!
She has one week down and another to go. Please continue to pray that the treatment would work and her liver would be restored.
