Sawyer's Journey...with “GBS”

You do not meet many children as personable, with as kind a spirit, and with such impeccable manners as Sawyer Berry. He’s making the most out of his time at Scottish Rite after waking over a week ago and trying to simply walk across the room and could not. His Daddy told him come on son, walk over here to me and that’s when Sawyer replied and said I can’t Daddy, I forgot how to walk, not realizing he was paralyzed from the waist down. Despite his legs not working, Sawyer has mastered his wheelchair like a pro NASCAR driver - from buckling in and out, to straightening the curves and spinning his wheels. He’s gracious to his visitors as well as those who care for him. And I watched as he opened a bag of chocolate chip cookies and offered one to every person in the room...then he giggled, stuck out his tongue and showed us his own cookie This little guy is sunshine. He’s making progress but this particular disease “Gullian Barre’ Syndrone” takes time and a lot of patience. Sawyer is the youngest little guy the drs have seen her at CHOA with this disease. He and his family need your continued prayers and support. His mama, Kristie Harrison Berry, is one of my oldest friends, and many of you have known her for as long as I have. Sawyer and his sisters, Summer and Sydney Sellers, are all exceptional, and this does not happen by accident. Please lift this family up and let Kristie know that even though our small town has grown and changed, we’re still a community that circles the wagons when it’s one of our own.
