Best Buddies at UNC Chapel Hill is so excited to announce that our Disability Awareness Committee will launch a pop-up coffee stand in the Fall called “Best Buddies Brews”!
The coffee stand will pop-up monthly, both on-campus and around the Triangle area, and it will be operated by volunteers from our chapter. Our mission is twofold and mutually beneficial to both our participants and the broader community:
1. The stand offers participants an opportunity to develop their marketable skills, build friendships, network, and actively participate in their community. It is an ongoing, sustainable platform that will showcase our participants' value and abilities.
2. We believe our positive presence in the community will foster a culture that anticipates, values, and celebrates diversity. At large, this stand will play a part in enacting Best Buddies’ mission to eradicate social, physical, and economic exclusion of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We believe everyone belongs and everyone deserves a space to contribute to their community.
So, why coffee? Coffee has a special way of bringing people together, and we believe in the power of meaningful interpersonal connection to cultivate inclusion! Additionally, coffee has allowed us the opportunity to proudly partner with HÆRFEST COFFEE, a Charlotte-based coffee roasting company that employs individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
If you would like partner with us in this movement, we are seeking support, whether it be in the form of financial giving, spreading the word, or suggesting potential venues for our pop-up stand! Your generous contributions to our startup costs are the first step in bringing our plans to fruition and ultimately, advancing our efforts toward a more inclusive world!
