New Set of Wheels
In 2017 I had a life changing surgery to correct broken rods that had helped keep my spine straight. I recovered after many complications and have been trying to get back to life.
Except there's one thing holding me back...
My wheelchair.
The surgery and subsequent recovery left me with a muscle adhesion over my left scalpula. It causes my left arm to be pretty weak and weight-loss left me not fitting properly in my current chair. Its heavy to lift and my weakness means that I can't go far and easily tire out.
After six loooong months trying to get a new wheelchair approved I was left with a copay of nearly six grand!
I am lucky to have had an extensive surgery and paid nothing out of pocket but our current medical system doesn't see the things I need to be independent in my community and my job as a necessity.
You see wheelchairs are rated for in home use only; meaning you're only disabled inside your home! Look at the pic of me outside my apartment! It's a mirac-wait a minute! Still disabled!
I am unable to afford the copay so I am asking for help. I need this new chair ASAP as I am having increased pain and it is difficult for me to get around to do my job or just trying to live life. To be truly independent, I need this chair. For this surgery to be a full success and to prevent further operations, I need this new lighter chair,
Furthermore, as a thank you, I'll use my new wheelchair to help educate and advocate for rule changes as we need a better system for people to be able to get the right equipment for their needs
