Dear Vancouver (and beyond),
I am writing this as a community member for a poet, teacher and friend in need.
On October 16th, Leslie Stark, Aunika's loving mom posted this facebook status:
"My daughter, Aunika Stark-Kelly is in critical care right now. She was hit by a speeding car and has serious head trauma, fractured skull and pelvis, and other injuries."
Since then, Aunika has had critical surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. Her family and friends are sending their loving prayers and healing thoughts. At this time, her condition and long-term care needs remain uncertain.
As a mom of two young children, I imagine this time to be a scary and difficult one that most of us will never dream of facing.
Leslie is on watch 24 hours for her daughter Aunika's care. It is for this reason that we ask for any measure of donation that you, and those generous people within your network can manage, to help this family see their way through this time of crisis. It is unknown when either of them will be able to resume those daily activities that so many of us regularly take for granted.
This help is much needed, cherished and accepted with the deepest gratitude.
