Support Meaghan’s Fight With DDD

Meaghan Fowler is battling a very rare and and very underfunded disease called Dense Deposit Disease or “DDD” a from of C3G.

C3G is a rare disease. There are two major sub-types - DDD and C3GN. In general, within 10 years of diagnosis about half of persons progress to end-stage renal disease. Meaghan was diagnosed 5 years ago.Most current treatments for C3G are ineffective. However, some patients have an elevated complement biomarker called soluble C5b-9. For these patients, Eculizumab may slow the progression of disease.

Eculizab is the second MOST EXPENSIVE drug there is in Canada. It has to be used off label for this disease because of the sheer lack of studies. A 600mg dose is 12000 dollars. Insurance has refused to cover the drugs off label usage, and her other medications are no longer keeping the disease at bay. Thankfully the hospital itself has a program which allowed Meaghan to receive 2 doses. However, she needs more doses to see a longer term result. The third dose will have to be 900mg. And that has a price tag of 18000 dollars.

Please help me help the Fowler family with the cost of treating their daughter. If we cannot get to the goal, proceeds will be used to help Meaghan and her family afford things like gas and parking at the hospital multiple times a week, some meals for her exhausted parents and a travel fund if she has to be moved to another hospital. Please help in any way you can. This blossoming young lady deserves to have more time with her loved ones.
