Last year, for the first time in a decade, Lawyers On Stage Theatre Society (LOST) produced The Snow Queen at Langham Court Theatre to raise donation money for the Single Parent Resource Centre and TLC: Fund for Kids. It was a huge success! Thank you to all who were involved and supported our show. This year, LOST is pleased to bring Bryony Lavery’s thrilling adaptation of “Treasure Island”, based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story, to Langham Court Theatre Dec 6-9, 2018 for our annual fundraiser.
But we need your help! We are a not-for-profit society, and while there are many volunteers in LOST contributing (including all of the lawyer-actors), while we beg, borrow, and steal (haha, that's right in line with our pirate theme) what we can for the production, we are in need of financial support to produce this exciting event. Any profits from this production are donated to our selected charities: this year, it's the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre -a feminist organization committed to ending sexualized violence through healing, education, and prevention, TLC: Fund for Kids- supporting children’s needs in our community, and a bursary for a UVic law and theatre student in need.
Here's a brief of this year's production:
In Lavery’s Treasure Island, Jim Hawkins becomes a girl rebelling against gender roles. Women pirates (who actually existed) take centre stage in this imaginative adaptation. Lavery’s production premiered at the National Theatre, London, in December 2014 where critics said “a richly enjoyable show… brings new life to a loved book and reminds us, through its adventurous casting, that bravery and daring are not a male prerogative.”
Prepare for danger and excitement and the meaning of treasure in our own life!
Director Kate Rubin will return with her production team including Carole Klemm, Sadie Fox, Karrie Wolf, Hana Ruzesky-Bashford, Chris Clark, Mya Blaus and others and a colourful cast of actors drawn from the legal community including Katie Webber as Jim and Christopher Mackie as Long John Silver.
