North Stradbroke Island Golf Club Support for the Straddie Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR)
Dear Surf, Beach and Boating Enthusiast and all other visitors to North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Bay,
Whether you are living on North Stradbroke Island or just visiting, you should be aware that after dark and before dawn it is only the Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) which can be relied upon to deal with any personal emergency and, if needed, get you safely to the mainland. You might one day be one of the 200 medical evacuations, searches or boating rescues conducted annually by Straddie VMR.
Up to now Straddie VMR has been heavily reliant upon sand mining sponsorship to meet its operating costs. However, with the imminent closure of sand mining on Straddie, this sponsorship is now coming to an end and the Straddie VMR is looking at a black hole in its budget.
To help alleviate this situation, the North Stradbroke Golf Club is hosting the inaugural VMR Golf Classic on May 19, 2018 and hope to raise as much as $10,000 for the VMR. Unfortunately, the $10,000 we hope to raise as part of the VMR Golf Classic only covers part of the VMR’s total fuel and maintenance costs for 2019, so we are hoping that this GoFundMe campaign will help to raise significant additional funds.
How will the money be spent:
The raised funds will be distributed in full (minus GoFundMe admin costs) as follows:
• 70% will go to the Straddie VMR as additional help to meet their 2019 operating costs
• 30% will go to the Straddie Golf Club to help create and promote further community relevant events, including next years VMR Golf Classic
Please contribute as much as you can (any amount is gratefully accepted) to help us keep this critical rescue and emergency service operating smoothly and efficiently.

The Straddie Golf Club is a not-for-profit community club, which provides a family friendly, poker machine free, licensed course and clubhouse. The club is operated and maintained by the volunteer labour of its members and has a history of using its resources to support the local community.
