Seeking A Miracle

My name is Mark, and I am too weak to write this, so my son is doing it for me.

How did I get to this point, I worked hard all my life both for the City of Chicago, as an Asphalt Engineer, and running a part-time construction company to provide for my wife and our six boys. Yes, six boys, I always put my families needs above my own and sacrificed long hours to make sure we had a good roof and food on the table. I did not come from money just the opposite a broken home, and we were relatively poor but strong in spirit.  I had the American dream work hard and grow old on my retirement pension. However, that dream came crashing apart very quickly in 2016.

Ten years after I retired, from the City of Chicago, whom I worked for 32 years, which guaranteed me 80% of my salary and would provide me with health insurance as part of my compensation in my pension deal. Sounds like a great deal, right.  However, three years ago in 2016 the city made a decision to cut-costs and stopped all health insurance benefits on retired pension holders, stating that going forward we would need to purchase our own health insurance as the city was in a deficit. On a take-home pension of  $50K per year, I now had to front $32, 160 per year to cover my spouse and myself for health insurance.  This didn't even allow me enough money to cover my mortgage payment, credit card debt, utility bills, car insurance, and other standard living expenses.

To make matters worse at the end of that same year, 2016,  I was diagnosed with MDS Blood Cancer, which over the next two years morphed into AML Leukemia. The past three years have wiped us out financially, and now the banks threaten to take our house as I sit in the hospital literally fighting for my life.  I now have till the end of April to come up with money to save my house with mounting medical bills, and I am praying to God for a miracle that I may survey this life-threatening disease and still have a home to come to if I survive.
