Kaylee's Story

Donation protected
Hi. This is Katy Tompkins, Kaylee Mutharts' mom. To all of you guys that have been there for Kaylee and our family, we truly and sincerely appreciate it! I am editing the initial post that was originally put on this back in February. For you guys that don't know about Kaylee, she was under the influence of methamphetamine and pulled her eyes out making her permanently blind. Kaylee is only 20 years old and had succumb to the evil of this drug. Although she had only been using it for a few months, it was dangerous enough for her that she had extreme hallucinations and thought in order to save the world, her eyes needed to come out. It's coming upon a year now and I wanted to write about some things in a brief description. All of the updates are still here so you can go back and read them. Our family has had a very hard year. Many ups and many downs. But I really want to say that my sweet Kaylee is taking this much better than I am. She may be able to get a service dog for free, after a lot of research and help from The South Carolina Commission For The Blind so that is wonderful. But I had no idea of how many expenses we would have. Her disability money just started a few months ago so me and my husband, along with the help of all of you guys, have been supporting her, as she is unable to work. It's a lot! The plan is her going to blind school evaluation in January to see how long she needs to be there. They will be driving her to be career motivated to go to college in order to support herself, which is the main goal! I, personally, didn't think it would take this long but The South Carolina Commission For The Blind is state governed and it's taking a lot more time. I just wanted to let you guys know a bit that we have learned and been through the past year, almost! We appreciate every single one of you and your kindness, thoughts and graciousness in helping us through this. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me. Also, if it helps, please go back and read my updates. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and your kindness in this time of our lives!
