Our David! Where can I begin.... a wonderful husband, best friend, awesome father & self less man that will put anyone before himself. In February of 2016, David was diagnosed with the rarest form of cancer, Grade 4 Glioblastoma. Normally when you say this, you think of the brain. But David, developed this in his spine. 1 our of 200 people have this deadly disease. And unfortunately, their is no cure for this beast. For the past 2 years, David has been our Super Hero! He has surpassed his Neo- Oncologist expectations. He was originally given 14-18 months to live. From 40 straight days of the strongest radiation and a full year a chemo, this beast of a tumor kept silent.... Until 2/8/18, exactly 2 years from his first day of radiation. We got news that no one expects to hear. It has shown its face again & in a fast pace. We are so thankful for our family at UAMS, but unfortunately there is nothing else that can be done due to the location of this deadly tumor. Now it’s about celebrating life & choosing the right path to give him a quality of life. They are looking for clinical trials right now that will fit David’s disease. We are hoping to find a cure for anyone else that is faced with this deadly cancer. We are needing support for travel needs & visits that the insurance does not cover.“Feed your Faith & your fears will starve to death!”We love you all that have been by us throughout this journey! Please continue to support us in your prayers. David, Jennie & Nathan Martin

To see his face light up after this scan, words can not even express the feelings we felt. Our son, Nathan, that morning said “Mom, remember good thoughts, God is lifting us up.”
Good news- radiation did it purpose & slowed it down. Dr. Shirley Ong is keeping him on chemo every 2 weeks, as it is helping with keeping the spinal cord from anymore damage, due to so much radiation he has received.
David will start another medication, called Accutane, daily. She had to convince him (which took an hour ❤️) But once she told him we where running out of options & to continue to trust her, he didn’t hesitate, even though the side effects could be bad. This will continue to give him quality of life.
He was blessed only to loose part of his function on the right side. He is in a wheelchair all the time now, but handling like a champ.

Our next scan will be at the first of the year, which will take a lot of pressure off us as a family. We will enjoy our family & friends without the added stress, which she agreed❤️

Dave has finished his TomoTherapy Radiation. We praises God every day for all the family & friends surrounding us as we fight this terrible disease. We will not know the next step until 11/1, when they do his next MRI scans..... he will still continue his chemo every two weeks.
Dave has only had a few complications during this last journey (which Doctors are amazed).... continues to fight it with a smile all the way.
Lord guide us as we take this next step & pray for all the Doctors & Nurses surrounding is from UAMS as they decide our next path. #glioblastoma

Just an update on David:

Went to see Dr. Xia, Chairman of Oncology Radiation yesterday. David will begin radiation again next week for 25 days. It is a different form of radiation- called TomoTherapy, a more advanced type. It is a huge risk, but he will continue to fight.

Our Super Hero!!!

Latest update:

David will have his blood checked on Monday. If platelets have improved, they will begin his Avastin again. If not, they will do another transfusion.

Dr. Xia (pronounced Shaw) is the Chair of Radiology. She will see him on 8/28. If you remember, when this all began, we did DNA testing on the tumor. She will prepare him for radiation. She comes from Harvard, Vanderbilt & China. Focuses on all spinal & brain tumors. Unfortunately, there are some serious complications with radiation again. He could loose all movement from the waist down.

We continue to stay strong in our faith daily! Every day is a gift. It is all about making him comfortable & have more days with us❤️

We love you!
