Vanstones on the mend
The Waikerie Hotel ARB Riverland 300 was held on the 13-15th July 2018 and Hadyn and Neil Vanstone were doing what they love; off road racing against some of the best class 2 competitors from across South Australian and the country.
After completing 3 of their 5 laps on Sunday they had their 1 hr pit break. Hadyn and Neil where in good spirts looking forward to finishing strong for the weekend. Approx. 10kms into starting their 4th lap, they were involved in a horrific incident after an unseen Class 1 buggy impacted with them from behind. Hadyn and Neil where both knocked unconscious, their buggy was on fire laying on its LH side. A fellow competitor and his navigator (both friends of the family) happen to be 50m from the accident. They both rushed down and helped pulled Hadyn and Neil from the burning wreckage.
As a result of the accident Neil was left with a fractured collarbone, concussion, bumps and bruises. Hadyn wasn’t so lucky. He was flown down to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with 3rd degree burns to 10% of his body. After undergoing skin grafts to his back, shoulder and arm, he is now on the way to recovery.
We have started this go fund me page to try and raise some money to help assist with Hadyn and Neils recovery. Part of the recovery process would be getting them back into what they both love to do and that’s competing in off road racing.
Hadyn and Neil are members of the 5351 motorsport team from Williamstown in South Australia.
