50 for 50 for Liz

Donation protected
Who: Memorial Fund in honor of Liz Pabst – Proceeds to be donated to Special Olympics

What: 50-mile run on my 50th Birthday hence to be known as 50for50forLIZ

When: Sunday August 5th, 2018 – I plan on starting the run by 7 AM and estimate it will take me 12 to 14 hours to complete.

Where: Norwalk Reservoir, Shelter K – the shelter will serve as base of operations for the 50-mile run.  I have measured off a 5-mile course that consists of three loops surrounding the shelter. Loop 1 is two miles around the main reservoir, loop 2 is a trail run of just under 1.5 miles, and loop 3 is run of just over 1.5 miles.  If you are able, please stop by the reservoir and join me for part of the run.  Anyone who runs even a small part of the run with me will receive an event T-shirt as a thank you for helping.

Why: It has been a little over three years since my sister, Liz passed away.  In that time, I have done a lot thinking and soul searching about what it meant to have her in my life and how it has shaped the man I have become.  Coaching is major facet of who I am today, and I realized that Liz was the first person I ever coached.  Whether it was working with her on making her first foul shot or how to hit a baseball, it planted the seed that would eventually lead me into coaching.

I believe that sports and being part of a team can teach a lot of lessons that can be used throughout your life.  I witnessed this when Liz participated in the Special Olympics and I continue to see this in the kids I coach today.

The Special Olympics also turn 50 this year and seemed a natural fit as the beneficiary of all the proceeds raised through the 50for50forLIZ event.

What Color:  It was common to have Liz ask a long series of questions about a topic.  It became our family tradition to just ask Who, What, When, Where, Why, What Color when a new topic was introduced.

Anyone who donates $50 or more also will be able to leave a motivational or inspiration message which will be turned into a sign to be posted along the course.

Anyone who donates $100 or more will also receive an event T-shirt.

We welcome and are extremely grateful for any contributions to the event to help us reach our goal of raising $5,000.  Please donate, your help is so important – if you can’t donate at this time, please help get the word out by sharing the event – The more who know, the more we can raise!  We cannot reiterate enough how extremely grateful we are for the support from you all.
