To our most beloved family, friends, and community,
We are beyond excited to officially announce that after over 5 years of love and devotion to one another, we’ve made the decision to get married and start a family. On January 15th, 2019, we celebrated our love by officially signing our marriage documents and becoming a legally wedded couple. Those of you who know us know that our relationship has been anything but conventional, so we’ve decided to forego the traditional engagement / wedding process.
This spring, in lieu of a traditional wedding and reception, we are hosting a party to celebrate not only our marriage, but also our decision to foster to adopt children within the next year, and we invite you to celebrate with us.
As some of you may know, we have been wanting to become foster parents for a long time. This commitment, to us, means that we are ready to move on and start a family and, most importantly, that we now have the special opportunity to change the lives of others. There is no cost to attend this event, and no donation is required, however, if you are able and willing, you can help us make our dream come true by attending our event and bringing anything that may be helpful for us and our future foster kids. We are also accepting monetary donations here, through Go Fund Me. Of the monetary donations collected, 50% will be used to buy a house in Kalamazoo with the space necessary to help as many children as we are realistically able to host. The other 50% will go toward Hope Pkgs, based in Holland, Michigan - an organization that collects items to build bags filled with new items such as socks, underwear, pjs, and toiletries for children transitioning to new foster homes after a trauma or other significant life changing event. Often times, children arrive to their new foster homes with very little, sometimes even nothing. This local organization helps children transition smoothly by providing the resources necessary. Only $5 fills a duffel bag for one child, and these bags are distributed throughout the state of Michigan. Imagine how many children we have the opportunity to help by working together now.
According to Adoption Network, of the over 400,000 children in foster care in the United States, 114,556 cannot be returned to their families and are waiting to be adopted. In 2016, 6,275 children entered foster care in Michigan alone. Not only is this a chance to celebrate our love and devotion to each other, but also an opportunity to protect and provide for so many area youth. In order to make this dream come true, we need the help of our family, friends, and community members. We enthusiastically await this new chapter in not only our lives, but the lives of our future children. Please join us in this effort to have a positive effect on our community.
