Oliver's Medical Fund

Oliver is my grandson.  He was born January 22, 2008 in Dallas, Texas, premature with spina-bifida and hydrocephalus.  As treatment a shunt was placed that drains fluid off his brain, he was 6 days old.  He is now 9 years-old and has been in great health up until September 7, 2017 when he was taken to the local ER in Newport, Oregon complaining of a bad headache.  The local ER examined him and told his parents due to his shunt they felt that they should have him seen by a neuro-surgeon at Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon and an appointment was arranged for the morning of September 8th.  From where Oliver now lives  it is a 2 1/2  to 3 hour drive to the Children's Hospital.  While at home preparing to take him to the appointment Oliver stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest, 911 was called and his Dad was instructed on how to perform CPR.  He began breathing  and the Medics transported him back to the local ER where he stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest again.  A tube was placed to breathe for him and he was taken to the airport and Life Flighted to Randall's Children's Hospital in Portland upon landing he was taken into surgery immediately.  By the time we were able to get there having to drive he was out of surgery and doing well.  As the day went on he begin having trouble and it was discovered at some point he must have vomited and aspirated into his lungs.  His vital signs were very unstable, fluid in his lungs, enlarged heart, and had to be put on a ventilator.  As of September 12, 2017 Oliver is improving, he is responsive, being weaned off some of the medications, and the ventilator.  His parents have been with him day and night since this happened, they are sleeping and eating in the hospital as they can not get into Ronald McDonald house as it currently has a long waiting list.  It is unknown how long Oliver will be there, but he will have to have rehab to deal with coming off some of the addictive drugs he had to be on.  His Dad lost his job earlier this year and they are also losing there home.  There situation is urgent.  The funds will be used to enable his parents to be at the hospital with him and to hopefully get them into another home, as well as, things of comfort for Oliver or any things to further help with his recovery.
