PRIVATE: Coach Nelms 2011 State Ring

Donation protected
Update: I will leave this open until 5pm today. If anyone else would like, please donate and any amount over the cost of the ring will be donated to the Wimberley Texan Athletic Booster Association in Coach and Casey Nelms names. Our goal has been met for the ring, now let’s see how much WTABA can get from the Nelms!

Some of you may know me, others may know the last name and some might have no clue who I am. But we all share one thing in common... an unwavering respect and admiration for Coach Weldon Nelms. I am Marshall Masur, a 1992 Wimberley Grad, and linebacker on Coach’s first two teams at Wimberley in the ‘90 and ‘91 seasons. Recently, Casey Nelms reached out to my brother, Darren, whose company did the design and made the 2005 and 2011 state championship rings. Casey said that Coach’s 2011 Champ ring has been lost. She knows how much it means to Coach but also knows he is a humble man and would refuse to pay the amount needed to replace it. We all know Coach well and the memories of those teams are what matter most to him and right now, as a retired Coach and a Grandparent, large chunks of money need to be prioritized. Darren can replace the exact ring for Coach but it comes at a cost. A cost Coach Nelms would not pay and frankly would be upset if he found out Casey had payed. Darren reached out to me because he knows how deep Texan Pride runs in my heart. He knows how I feel about Coach Nelms and what he has meant to me and he knows that all of you feel the same. He also understands the ring matters as a symbol of what was accomplished in 2011 and the program that was built in Wimberley by Coach and all of the fine men who worked along side him. We know that he wants this ring but has chosen to prioritize which is one of the many admirable things about him. So, let us not give him a choice. He is and always will be Coach Weldon Nelms, a man who built a proud program from scratch and two time Texas High School Football State Champion. He has earned our gratitude and many of us have an opportunity now to give back. Please share this with as many Wimberley football alums and supporters as possible but please DO NOT let this get back to Coach until he has no choice but to accept it. Darren Masur and Central Texas Recognition have offered to replace the ring at the amount that it costs to make it which is $1500. Please join me in showing your Texan Pride and help in donating any amount to help replace a meaningful symbol of success. The father of the Wimberley Texan Football Program should, no doubt, possess that ring! Thanks so much! Texan Pride!!!Marshall Masur
