Services Now for Adult Persons, Inc. (SNAP) is a not for profit social service agency dedicated to improving and enhancing the quality of life for older adults in Queens. Two thousand Queens seniors receive SNAP services daily that include hot, nutritious meals, educational and recreational programs, transportation, social work assistance, supportive in-home services, and volunteer opportunities. Without our broad array of services these seniors would remain isolated in their homes. For most of our clients this is their only daily contact and often their only meal and transportation option, as most of them live alone and have no family nearby. Many of our client’s suffer from physical and financial hardship but are able to remain independent with SNAP’s supportive services.
In June 2013 a local building was purchased to become the new home of SNAP. Construction began in October 2014 and we immediately encountered problems with the building’s infrastructure resulting in a severe reduction of our funds. Unfortunately our budget allowance does not include the money for essential kitchen equipment necessary for the daily preparation of almost 600 meals. Meanwhile time is running out for us to vacate from our current site on the Creedmoor Campus. There are plans to redevelop the portion of the Creedmoor Campus that SNAP occupies and we must leave as soon as possible.
We are reaching out to the family, friends and neighbors of the community that we have served since 1980 for financial assistance. If every person who receives this would make a donation SNAP will be able to continue to provide these vital services to seniors of Queens. These are our retired neighbors, teachers, police officers, firemen, veterans, nurses, crossing guards etc. that were always there when we needed them. We hope to continue to be there when they need us. Please consider donating and pass this on to your contacts who would give to the SNAP Building Fund.
