I’m starting this campaign on behalf of my best friends 10 year old daughter, Meadow. At just 25 days old Meadow was diagnosed Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Cystic Fibrosis is disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. Meadow has been treated at Pediatrics Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Center at University Hospital since her diagnosis. There is no cure for CF at this time and all we can do is help Meadow manage her symptoms. At the beginning of 2017 Meadows blood work started to concern doctors, so began a number of tests and scans to figure out what was going on in Meadows body. Doctors learned that Meadows liver was showing signs of CF related liver disease and her spleen was enlarged. With medication, the doctors were hoping that they could reverse the damage or at best slow the progression. This method proved to be unsuccessful. At the beginning of November 2017 Meadow was sent to have a Fibro Scan done to see the progression of the damage. The doctors told Meadows mother that she has stage 3/4 Fibrosis of the Liver. There are 4 stages of Fibrosis before it turns into Cirrhosis of the liver which is a serious heath concern. Meadow is a unique CF patient, in that her lungs are extremely healthy and a side from her recent liver complication she’s done extremely well in fighting her disease.Meadows liver has shown rapid progression and her lungs have remained healthy. Although her PFT’s (pulmonary function test) have declined from her normal 121% to around 114%, the main focus at this point is her liver. On 12/1/17 the doctors told Meadows parents there was nothing more that they could do for Meadow at her current GI and CF clinics for her liver progression. The doctors made a referral to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan as Meadow now needs a Liver Specialist. The purpose of this is to get Meadow evaluated for a liver transplant and to help slow down progression of the damage. Meadows parents were told it could take several months to get an appointment. On 12/8/17, Mount Sinai called Meadows mother and informed her that her appointment would be on January 5th. Of course she took the appointment because she didn’t want to risk having to wait months and Meadow possibly getting sicker. This is were I need everyone’s help....traveling to Manhattan at this time of year is financially difficult due to the holidays. Between gas, tolls, parking, hotels etc. they are needing a little help. They attempted to get into the Ronald McDonald house but Mount Sinai isn’t in their network. We know with the holidays this may be hard but we just ask that you share and donate if you are able. We would like to make sure Meadow is here with her family for many more holidays to come.If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be happy to answer them. On behalf of Meadow, her parents and siblings thank you for reading her story, sharing and helping in any capacity.
