4th Annual Sunset Park PR Parade

El Grito is proud to announce the 4th Annual Sunset Park Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 10, 2018, beginning at 5pm at 59th Street and 5th Avenue in Brooklyn.

This year’s parade is dedicated to the people of Sunset Park and beyond who came together to support the island of Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria. More than ever, the Sunset Park Puerto Rican Day Parade symbolizes the strength and resilience of our people, both on the island and in diaspora.

Thanks to the outpouring of our community, and the support of the Gabriel Rivera Foundation and El Fondo Boricua of the St Paul Foundation, El Grito was able to transport and distribute nine containers worth of supplies, to the island of Puerto Rico.
Hundreds of volunteers packed boxes of goods and supplies donated by community members.
Tons of food, water, and desperately needed supplies were delivered to the most marginalized regions of the island, including the housing projects and the hard-to-reach mountain towns. Solar lamps and solar powered generators were delivered to families who are still struggling to access electricity. Water was delivered to schools that were struggling to provide enough for students to drink to make it through the school day.
Puerto Rico is facing incredible challenges in the wake of this devastating storm, and our Sunset Park community will continue to do all we can to support those on the island, and those who had to leave. We understand that those of us in diaspora have a responsibility to fight for the rights of those still on the island, and fight the fiscal policies and federal neglect that make recovery even more difficult.

We know that this is a difficult moment to fundraise for a parade, with so many on the island still struggling - but we believe that it is critical for us to come together as a community to celebrate our culture and resilience.
