Cupcake Battles Diabetes

Ceci Symon'e "Cupcake" is a precocious 7 year old who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. On a road trip home from visiting family in Atlanta she became very ill and the family was forced to stop at the nearest hospital. The hospital was not equipped to take care of a small child and her health was quickly declining. She soon became unconscious and had to be air-lifted to Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital PICU where she spent 7 days in the hospital recovering from a severe Diabetic Ketoacidosis.

Although Cupcake has medical insurance, it did not cover all of her medical expenses. The Emergency Transportation alone billed us over $39,000 and her hospital stay was over $20,000. Cupcake is being raised by her single mother who is an elementary school teacher and the cost of over-whelming medical bills, co-pays, and daily medications to keep her healthy & alive has put a tremendous financial strain on not only her mother but everyone who helps support her. Symon'e likes to attend Gymnastics class & play basketball (both of which she is good at) but hasn't been able to participate due to the costs of her illness.

Living with Type 1 Diabetes is a constant challenge and does not yet have a cure. Please find it in your heart to donate to Cupcake's family to help alleviate some of the burden of her medical expenses.
