Dave Bruns, the husband of one of my very best friends (Sam Bruns) has contracted a bacterial infection from the ocean on their family vacation in Florida in September, 2013. He fell in the ocean, injuring an already weak leg that already had poor circulation, and a skin ulcer. So far, to help save his life and keep his major organs from failing, he has had to have the skin on his left leg removed from above the knee all the way down to help get rid of the infection. He is currently in a coma, and on a ventilator in a hospital in Tampa Bay, Florida. He has had 4 surgeries on the leg so far and luckily they got to ER fast enough or he would have died quickly. This is the same flesh eating bacterial infection, called vibrio vulnificus that has been on the news in Florida for the last month or so, taking lives and making many very sick. This bacteria attacked his heart and kidneys and his bad leg within 20 hours of the fall. It is a salt water bacteria from dead shell fish. Sam has had to fly home and get what little cash she has, get some personal effects, pay some bills, and drive back to stay for the minimum of 6 week, up to 6 months for Dave to undergo skin grafting on the leg before he can be moved back home to St. Louis, Missouri. Neither one of them will be able to work, so the need for funds to help them through this time is very necessary. Please consider donating some small amount to help them keep going on this long journey to recovery. Please check out his story on the local news in St. Louis, MO at: http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/402277/3/Flesh-eating-bacteria-attacks-local-man-vacationing-in-Florida

I am so happy to report that Dave was released from Tampa Bay General on Tuesday, November 26th. Both he and Sam came to my home on Wednesday to stay a few days and celebrate Thanksgiving. Dave was ready to head home after a couple of days to rest, so they headed out yesterday (Saturday, November 30th) to start the drive home. They plan on taking their time to get home, and once there, Dave can start the next phase of his rehabilitation. I want to thank you all for your donations, so that this family could focus on healing. I also want to Praise God for His faithfulness in getting Dave to this point, and for the awesome testimony that the Bruns' can share about the Glory of God!

Latest update on Dave from Sam:

"Day 42- surgery #9- skin graft #2 Thank you Lord for great surgeons!! Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9"

God is so good, all of the time! Thank you all for your prayers and your donations. They still have a long way to go, so please consider donating some small amount to help them. The bills for November are due back home, and it costs for Sam to stay here and be by her husbands side while he undergoes many more skin grating surgeries.

God Bless! : )

I went to Tampa to see Dave today, and celebrate Sam's birthday with her. It was great to see and talk with him. He was tired and weak, but coherent and knew what was going on. A few minutes after I got there and spoke with him, they took him for surgery. Here is the latest update from Sam this evening after the latest surgery:

"Day 38 I have a follow up correction they did not skin graft last time as expected. Today surgery 8 was an allo graft. Dave has had a lot of pain from this procedure and has needed a lot of pain meds this time. Thank you all for the birthday wishes via fb and texts. I truly believe I have the best friends than anyone in the world. The best gift I could have is my husband has survived and is on his way to recovery. Thank You Jesus xoxox"

To make sure that the grafting will work, it will take some time and more surgeries to completely cover his leg and to heal. He will not be moved home until that is completed, so any donations you can make to help fund Sam's stay here along with their bills at home would be a huge blessing.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, and thank you in advance to everyone who can donate now. Prayers for many blessings to you and yours from God.

Update 12

Good morning! I have an update for you all on Dave. Sam came to see me this weekend, and in the midst of that, I got to speak with Dave on the phone. It was so good to hear his voice. He sounded good, yet he is confused and not sure what happened, and is very tired. Although this is tremendous news, he still has a long way to go. The last surgery he had last week did not include skin grafting. That is supposed to start today. Please pray that the procedure goes well and that all future procedures go smoothly, with little pain and quick healing. The earliest they may be able to return home is the end of November. This is still creating a hardship, so please consider donating. Thank you all for your prayers and donations. I pray God will shower you all with many blessings!

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'"

"Then the righteous will answer him, "˜Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, "˜Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:35-40 NIV
