Bear's Vet Bills.

As some may know Laura and I (Kailey) Rescued a Saint Bernard on Thursday 9/7. I saw this dog posted on the WV animal for sale site and he looked very pitiful. I shared the post to my facebook in hopes to help find him a home. We decided to take action in our own hands and go get him just so we knew he would be safe and we could find him a good home. I had spoken with the lady and yes she told me he had NO vaccinations, She told me he also had  a bad leg from being hit by a car a few years ago but he was able to move around. When Laura and I picked him up he was in a disgusting condition. His hair was so matted on his back side and on his belly. He smelt so bad I was gagging. Laura noticed the fleas crawling on his leg (which I was not advised of) and his "leg" was much worse than what was described. She was only giving him joint vitamins and it is very clear this big guy needs much more given attention. His hips seem encaved and his back legs rub together. He only moves around enough to go where he needs to go and then sits. It is also extremely difficult for him to get up and needs assistance with getting up even just a step.

Bear was given a flea bath as soon as we got him into town and brushed him to the best of our ability. He was also taken to the vet and given a rabies shot, an exam and a couple tests were run to ensure he was internally healthy. The test ran for his kidneys, lymes, and liver. Tests came back well but we found he was anemic from all the fleas he and and for the amount of time he had them for.

The vet would like to rebah him for 7 days to see if he gains any muscle in his back legs and would also like to x-ray his hips to see what kind of condition they are in. This is for that bill. The vet wants him to be sedated because of how uncomfortable he will be during this and estimated the cost at $350  + the in office vet visit will be around $400 total cost for this.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Anything donated over will go to the Saint Bernard Rescue Group who are located in Westminster, MD. (www.saintbernardrescuegroup.com)

We would also like to thank Alex Ritenour for covering his first visit. This was so kind hearted!
