Help fix Alfie's Broken Heart
I got Alfie as a bedraggled rescue puppy and he's grown up into an unbelievably clever, friendly and hilarious dog - everyone who meets him loves him and wants to take him home!
He has suffered with Addison's disease for 3 years, but we finally managed to get it under control with daily steroids and things were starting to look brighter for Alf.
The bad news is he's now just been diagnosed with a very serious heart problem called 3rd degree heart block and he needs some help really quickly! He is not allowed to run any more, or even get excited (though he still tries!) and his heart rate is just 40 bpm which means he is very tired a lot of the time. The vets say his heart could fail at any moment and he has a maximum of a few months to live, if he's lucky.
Alfie's only hope is to have a pacemaker fitted - this will bring him back to full health very quickly and add many years to his life. The pacemaker will cost £4,500 and I'm gutted I just don't have enough money to do this for him.
If you can donate whatever you can afford to help save Alfie's life I will be eternally grateful. He means the world to me and those that love him and he really, really needs a break.
Thank you so much, from Alf and me x
I want to give one last big thank you to all of you who helped Alfie to have his pacemaker operation last year, it was a phenomenal effort and so much kindness was shown - not just from my friends, but also from so many of you across the world who had never met me or Alfie. Some of you have now become friends on Facebook and I hope we remain in touch.
If it were not for your help, I would almost certainly have lost Alfie a year ago...I never forgot that and I did everything I could to cherish every extra day I had with him. As you can probably imagine, he was the most spoiled dog in the world, and we had many happy times together over the past year. I just wish he could have stuck around even longer, I will miss him so much.
With love and thanks
He can officially run as much as he wants now!
Thanks again to everyone who has helped Alfie, he wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for your kindness.
Tony & Alfie xx
I've been looking forward to posting some good news...here's a video of Alfie, just about to go on his first run since his heart operation. He's pretty excited about it!
A few weeks ago I honestly thought we'd been on our last walk together...thanks to you he now has a new lease of life and he is back doing his favourite thing again - running around like an idiot!
It's so great to have him back and see him running again, he's a fantastic dog and I can't thank you enough for saving his life x
Here's an x ray of Alfie with his pacemaker fitted - you can see the pacemaker in his neck and the wire going down through a vein into his heart. There is quite a large lump just under the skin on his neck where the pacemaker is, but it's a tiny price to pay for having him back and healthy.
Thanks again to all of you who helped to make this happen, it still feels like a miracle and I will always be grateful.
I'll post some slightly more cute photos of Alfie soon :-)
Tony & Alfie xx
