Julia's Guardian Angel

In 2001, we almost lost our daughter to a life-threatening peanut allergy. After taking a small bite of a Ritz-bitz with peanut butter and spitting it out, she fell into anaphylactic shock. By the time we reached the Emergency Room, she wasn't breathing anymore. Luckily, with Epinepherine, Bendryl, Prednisone and prayers, she started breathing again.

For the last 12 years, we have spent every day reading labels and monitoring her surroundings. Sometimes that is not enough. Even visiting a friend's house, Julia slipped off her shoe and stepped on a crumb of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch and her foot swelled up like a balloon. We can never be too safe.

That is where we need help. Julia is now a teenager that needs some independence and a guardian angel. We recently met with someone who trains peanut detection dogs, like narcotics dogs, to be service dogs for people with life-threatening peanut and tree nut allergies. The trainer has an opening for a dog for Julia if we can raise the money quickly and locate the breed we need - an Australian Labradoodle or Standard Poodle, due to their hypoallergenic properties. This is an almost two year process to get a puppy and have it fully trained and certified as a peanut detection dog.

We did it! You did it! Thank you! We exceeded our goal in less than two months and we are so thankful. Quincy will be coming to us very soon and we can't thank you enough for all your support, prayers and donations.

I wanted to give a special thanks to Barbara Claseman of BJBAGS, the AWESOME Thirty-One consultant who held not one, but two fundraisers, for us putting us OVER the top of our goal. Thank you, Barb!

Please keep the prayers coming! We still have lots of work to do for Quincy (training, socializing, etc.) And he will have to pass testing to be officially certified. For now, he is a "Service Dog in Training" and candidate for Peanut Detection, though I heard from the trainer he is acing every test! He and we still have work ahead of us. We will still be having a few mini-fundraisers to cover some of the last elements of his training and certification, but our major work here is done! Thank you!

Somebody made my little girl cry today and I have some words for them...

"THANK YOU!"

An anonymous donation was left at our home in our mailbox for Julia. We don't know who it was, but we believe it was someone from our neighborhood. We are humbled by the generosity shown by so many people.

May God bless this anonymous donor and all the donors who have helped Julia.

Let me tell you about a dear friend who took fundraising into her own hands! My dear friend, Tiffany, who knows and loves Julia, decided to ask for freewill donations for her apple butter and apple pies and apple sauce that she made this Fall from the apples in her yard. She raised $190 for Julia! When I asked her about reimbursing her for the jars, pretty ribbons, etc. She said, "Nope! The jars were donated! The apples came from the trees!"
So, thank you, Tiffany, and those of you who made a free will donation for her fabulous apple treats!
