As the powerful forces of Hurricane Irma & Jose now pass the Caribbean, many are left with total loss and devastation. Sandy Island is a place near & dear to my heart. Anyone that knows me well, will hear me speak of this location off the shores of Sandy Ground, Anguilla with a twinkle in my eye as if I was telling a "magical story". But if you've ever been there and felt the love & hospitality that The Connor Family & dedicated staff give day in and day out, you will know exactly what I am talking about.

It is a place where I've thrown a football with Michael Jordan, eaten some of the freshest crayfish, lobster & red snapper ever, made numerous "Charlie Punches" for tourists and native Anguillians, as well as washed my fair share of dishes when the kitchen was "in the weeds!" While working in Anguilla for almost 4 years Sandy Island was my escape from the long hours and toil of a chef. It instantly became one of my favorite places to visit in the Caribbean!

Within each menu there is a note that reads "We encourage you to leisurely stroll along our 360 degree beach. Take as many pictures as you possibly can as the footprint of the island changes constantly. Wind and wave actions change the shape of the island daily and strong hurricanes constantly threaten the island's very existence. In 1995, the island was completely washed away by Hurricane Luis..." This note will now have to be ammended to include Hurricane Irma in 2017.

I am happy to hear that the sand is already being redeposited by mother nature way earlier than it was after Luis in 1995 and with our help Simone and her wonderful team can rebuild the restaurant on Sandy Island so that they can welcome back the many friends they have made along the way and continue to create "experiences that last a lifetime". Given the location, they do not qualify for insurance. The road ahead will be long and the challenges will be enormous. Trees and shrubs will have to be planted and replanted and replanted until some take root and grow. The restaurant, restrooms, engine room, solar panel system, water system and all other structures will have to be rebuilt but we all know that it will be a labour of love for Simone and her team.

Sandy Island is not just a restaurant, island bar or destination, Sandy Island is family. We thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to building back a new & improved Sandy Island for tourists & locals to enjoy for years to come!
