On Thursday, September 14th Hurricane Florence began POUNDING the coast with 105mph winds, rain and "historic" flooding. My family and I live in the Wilmington/Leland area and were terribly affected. Unfortunately, on the first day of the storm, my 66 year old grandmother Daisy D. suffered extensive damage to her roof. The tarp that she had put on her roof was blown off and into the wind, the shingles on her roof from the middle to the back of her home were blown off and are now in her yard. When she evacuated, we stayed to keep an eye on her home and ours as well. Upon checking her home on Day TWO of the storm we discovered her home was being saturated with rain water due to the damaged roof. Her belongings inside of her home are damaged due to the leaking, and the water is coming in through her LIGHT FIXTURES on her ceiling, so it isn't safe for my grandmother to return until her roof can be repaired to avoid electrocution or mold exposure. The mold will grow rapidly in the home specifically because power has been out in everyone's homes out here since Thursday night- Friday morning. Duke Energy progress estimates 10 more days AT THE LEAST until power restoration. My grandmother is a senior citizen so unfortunately like several, she can not afford home owners insurance for her home. So all repairs to the roof would have to be paid out of pocket and I am asking for anyone that is reading this to PLEASE help her so she can return to her home. Once the flooding ceases enough to get on the highway and back to her house from ours, we will begin the "cleanup" process for her. Picking up shingles and debris, removing things from her home including spoiled food, and damaged furniture. And TRYING to let the home air out to maybe halt the mold if possible. Even if you can only offer $1 and a PRAYER we will accept anything! If you'd like to HELP with recovery efforts or cleaning in her home or the area period (we need help) please feel free to contact me! All help is welcome! Donations for food and water are also being accepted! #PrayForTheCoast #PrayForTheCarolinas #PrayForUsAll #HurricaneFlorence
