A daughter's quest to unite family and friends to help her mom raise the necessary money to cover out of pocket expenses to fight her breast cancer.

"Rachel," my mom said in a quiet but anxious voice, "I have cancer." It couldn't be! I had just returned to San Diego from Benicia where our family had spent an incredible Mother's Day picnicking and hiking on Mt. Diablo. My mom was vibrant and healthy as always and the day was full of fun, laughter, and a lot of love.

Except, that Mother's Day evening, a lump in her right breast was discovered. And within just a few days, everything changed and I heard those words... those three words... I never thought I would ever hear come out of my mother's mouth, "I have cancer." Then the emotional rollercoaster ride began.

From that moment on, things moved quickly and life in the Mau family changed forever. From doctor visits, to mammograms, biopsies, and a double mastectomy on June 4th, my mom, Jeannie Mau, had to start the fight of her life.

My mom recuperated from the surgery really well, but there was cancer in three lymph nodes. She is also "triple negative" and the doctor said that her cancer was aggressive and their recommended treatment options included extensive chemotherapy followed by radiation. Therefore, I moved back home to live with my parents and help take care of my mom's needs.

My mom has now completed eleven rounds of chemotherapy. In addition to her medical teatment through Kaiser she is seeking other medical help from a provider that is not covered by insurance. There will also be other out of pocket expenses including travel to southern California, other medical tests and treatments, prescriptions, and current co-payments.

This whole journey has put a financial strain on our family. We are humbly asking for your help and any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for considering to help my family during this difficult time.

My mother is a firm believer that ultimately God is the One in control. We are giving Him all the glory, for out of this disaster, we have found a new appreciation for life and have seen many people step up to the plate and offer love and support to us during this time.

Thank you for your help,
Rachel Mau

This will be the last post of my mom's journey. She wanted me to post this last entry from her.
"I want to thank everyone who supported me with your love, prayers and financial gifts. Your kindness truly blessed me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am not able to thank all of you individually, but please know how much it meant to me to see the incredible outpouring of love towards me during my cancer journey. I'm in the final stage of healing now, with the start of reconstruction. This will begin a new chapter of wholeness for me. I look forward to putting cancer behind me and have great hope for the future. I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future... So it is well with my soul.
God bless you all..."

Love Jeannie

I love you so very much Mommy and we are so proud of your strength and courage. Thank you all for your continuous prayers and love ❤️
Thank you Lord for giving my mommy enough strength to fight! You have created her to be such a brave lady!

Since my moms diagnosis she has had the double mastectomy surgery, as most of you know. Come March 7th she will embark on a new journey of reconstruction surgery. She will have multiple surgeries to complete this process but this is something she is very much looking forward to. It's a long road ahead but it's nice to see her so excited. We are right here with you every step of the way mommy!

I can't put into words how much I miss my precious mother and I've only been back in San Diego for a week. She has informed me that her intestinal issues have returned but we are zoning in on what the real issue may be. Hopefully we will have some clear answers within the next few days. She has the most optimistic personality though... You'd never know she even had cancer. I am so blessed to have such an amazing role model in my life. I love you mommy and think of you daily!
