My Mom's Journey with Cancer

Donation protected
A daughter's quest to unite family and friends to help her mom raise the necessary money to cover out of pocket expenses to fight her breast cancer.

"Rachel," my mom said in a quiet but anxious voice, "I have cancer." It couldn't be! I had just returned to San Diego from Benicia where our family had spent an incredible Mother's Day picnicking and hiking on Mt. Diablo. My mom was vibrant and healthy as always and the day was full of fun, laughter, and a lot of love.

Except, that Mother's Day evening, a lump in her right breast was discovered. And within just a few days, everything changed and I heard those words... those three words... I never thought I would ever hear come out of my mother's mouth, "I have cancer." Then the emotional rollercoaster ride began.

From that moment on, things moved quickly and life in the Mau family changed forever. From doctor visits, to mammograms, biopsies, and a double mastectomy on June 4th, my mom, Jeannie Mau, had to start the fight of her life.

My mom recuperated from the surgery really well, but there was cancer in three lymph nodes. She is also "triple negative" and the doctor said that her cancer was aggressive and their recommended treatment options included extensive chemotherapy followed by radiation. Therefore, I moved back home to live with my parents and help take care of my mom's needs.

My mom has now completed eleven rounds of chemotherapy. In addition to her medical teatment through Kaiser she is seeking other medical help from a provider that is not covered by insurance. There will also be other out of pocket expenses including travel to southern California, other medical tests and treatments, prescriptions, and current co-payments.

This whole journey has put a financial strain on our family. We are humbly asking for your help and any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for considering to help my family during this difficult time.

My mother is a firm believer that ultimately God is the One in control. We are giving Him all the glory, for out of this disaster, we have found a new appreciation for life and have seen many people step up to the plate and offer love and support to us during this time.

Thank you for your help,
Rachel Mau
