I’m so proud to present The Moonbeam Project: A 10 week pilot program I’ve created that will deliver a system of Reiki healing, therapeutic essential oils and expressive art to 10 survivors of rape and sexual trauma.*
Recent attention around the Me Too movement has illuminated the depth and breadth of our sexual assault epidemic. I say “our” because I believe this is an issue that affects more than just the 1 in 6 women who are victims of sexual violence. It weighs heavy on the hearts of all who know and love these women, who watch their spirits fracture and ache to love them back to being. It terrifies the family and friends of girls and women who have not yet been harmed, who know that every 98 seconds someone in the United States is sexually assaulted and they pray it won’t be their precious daughter/ sister/ partner.**
Sexual violence at its core is a theft of power, an expression of dominance whose intent is a total annihilation of self. Victims suffer from depression, flashbacks, dissociation, night terrors, self-harm and eating disorders. In my experience blending Reiki, therapeutic essential oils and expressive arts, I have witnessed immense healing for survivors of this kind of trauma. As Reiki does not require touch to achieve results, it provides a uniquely powerful service to those who are triggered by physical contact. Likewise, daily engagement with therapeutic essential oils helps survivors to rebuild a relationship with their body and reclaim control of their health and wellbeing. The expressive arts component is especially restorative, as it is an activity shared among the group, allowing survivors multiple ways to come out of hiding, use their creative voices and exercise vulnerability in a safe context.***
Program participants will receive the following:
A custom 10-week doTERRA essential oil protocol for daily emotional support
6 private Reiki sessions (90 mins each)
7 group meditation Reiki healings and expressive arts projects
The Moonbeam Project is adapted from a treatment model that I currently use with individual clients and will provide me the opportunity to broaden the scope of my work and impact larger crisis populations. With guidance from the Los Angeles Small Business Association, the California Association of Nonprofits and the Women’s Center for Creative Work, I’ll be fine-tuning my treatment model and cultivating the experience and data needed to secure future grants from outside resources. With a proven model and larger funding, I will have a program that can be easily duplicated to impact a variety of groups, including but not limited to: Addicts pursuing recovery, military veterans suffering from PTSD, LGBTQ teens who are rendered homeless, refugees, and victims of domestic abuse.
As I state in the video above, my work is very personal to me; It is an extension of my belief that we are all one and that your joy is my joy, your pain is my pain.
