Helping Hands for Denver Homeless

Hi there my name is Christian DuVall, and I am currently a resident of Denver, CO. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, whether it’d be my friends, family members, coworkers, strangers, people I just met; it’s just who I am as a person. It gives me pleasure to be doing something for someone other than myself, and helping improve other people’s life. I feel like this virtue isn’t as true anymore for other people because times are tough for everyone right now, and not everyone is able to give out a helping hand due to jobs, not having transportation, or just simply not having enough time. Even though we want to help some of us find excuses to put ourselves before others. I would like to change that and help change people’s minds as well too.

I want to use this go fund me page as a way for anyone to give back and help contribute to helping the homeless LGBT youth, families and disabled veterans in Denver, CO. I want to be able to help make a difference in the city that I live in and love. I moved to Denver, CO about 2 years ago from Washington DC. Back home on the east coast during the winter times me and my friends would create “Go Packs” for the homeless men and women we would see around DuPont Circle. Passing them around knowing that these “Go Packs” truly help them out.

What is a “Go Pack”???? A “Go Pack” is a backpack that’s is packed to the brim with useful things that help homeless people need to help survive during the winter months. Things that more fortunate people take for granted, like warmth, food, general hygiene, feminine products etc... what I NEED to do is to create a team of WARRIORS to help me create these “Go Pack’s”!

Inside the “Go Pack’s” will be:
•a backpack to hold all the goodies
•Hand/feet/body warmers
•tooth brush/tooth paste
•face & body wash
•wet wipes
•blanket
•deodorant
•non-perishable Foods
•feminine hygiene products (tampons/pads/etc)
•socks
•jacket (windbreaker/weather resistant poncho/coat)
•a grocery store gift card: SafeWay, KingSoopers etc...
•chapstick
•disposable razors
•reusable water bottle/thermos for warm and cold water
•first aid kit
•tissues
•hand sanitizer
(I am always up for suggestions if anyone thinks of any other great items to add)

This project that I am doing is not cheap and is why I am using this platform to help individuals in need. I am not going to use name brand products that are overly expensive but I am going to use products that will help them last the winter months. My shopping will primarily be done at Costco’s and Sams Club’s since buying in bulk is cheapest, and I’ll be able to make multiple “Go Pack’s” at a time.

Remember WARRIORS there are better things to do with your time/ money and giving to those that have no one else is a great way to ring in the new year. I’m talking about families that lost everything and are now on the streets or living in shelters. The young LGBT kids that ended up getting kick out of their homes just because they are “different” and have no one to turn to. The men and women that fought for this country, but when their country didn’t fight back for them, they ended up being decorated veterans begging for our scraps.
