Hope for Refugees:
You may be aware of the crisis affecting Kamwenge:tens of thousands of refugees streaming across the border from Congo into Uganda. As a result, this large number of refugees is impacting Kamwenge Secondary and Vocational School (KSVS), which serves the resettled Ugandan population in Kamwenge, as well as the impoverished surrounding area.
KSVS and Partners in Mission (PIM) are at the forefront of preparing these refugee children to become the future leaders of Africa in 2 important ways:
1. At KSVS we equip and educate the next generation of Ugandans to become leaders who are able to transform their own community.
2. PIM partners with refugee Christian leaders living in camps to establish churches there. Churches are critical in proclaiming the message of reconciliation, and equipping Christians to provide spiritual leadership to people while they are in the camps and when they return home.
It's an Uphill Climb without Your Help:
In both cases, we are fully reliant on our van to transport volunteers, mission teams, bibles, relief supplies, students and faculty, educational supplies, and building materials to Kamwenge, a 3-hour drive over rough Ugandan dirt roads. Our van is the only vehicle available for use at KSVS and the only practical transportation for visiting refugee camps.
We have had our van since 2008; it has transported us over 150,000 miles of Ugandan roads, equivalent to 300,000 miles on paved US interstates. We shake, stall, and at times are no longer able to use our van to visit strategic places. We critically need to replace our vehicle.
Think of a time when you have used a vehicle to transport a large amount of goods to a place; how you might have accomplished that task by walking, by cycling, or perhaps by using public transportation:day after day. That is the problem we face without a reliable vehicle.
Here is your opportunity:
We need individuals and small groups to fund a Toyota Land Cruiser that is built to haul large quantities of goods and people over the difficult dirt roads. The cost of a vehicle is similar to the cost of a used one here, approximately $30,000.
