SPCA Donation for Sophie The Dog

Donation protected

The original goal was reached in like 2 hours, I can't believe how kind people have been! It's amazing!  I'm raising the goal to 1,200.  Trying to keep this positivity train rolling. All of it will still goto the Allen County SPCA. This has been truly heartwarming. Thank you so much.

Today is one of the worst days of my life. This isn't hyperbole, I can only think of three or four days that would be able to eclipse it in the terrible department. All of those too involve the loss of someone or something I care about. Today our dog Sophie left us and I am absolutely broken hearted. Crushed, I sit here and write this in between breaking down in tears. I feel like I'm usually pretty upbeat maybe even a bit of a clown, but that's all just a front for how soft I am inside, especially when it comes to the human and non humans I care about.
If you are one of the people who says "it's just a dog" its ok, this is not for you. In fact I'm not even sure who it's for, maybe it's my own personal therapy.
Four-ish years ago Sophie chose us to live with. We originally went to the SPCA to look at a Beagle puppy but while wondering back through the kennels to see it, Sophie jumped on the side of hers and actually got us in trouble. In an effort to limit the spread of infection they ask that you don't pet the animals in the kennels but we couldn't resist. The lady scoffed at Leslie and I. We met the beagle who was really cool, but ultimately we knew Sophie, then named "cutie" was the one for us.
I think a lot animals are like humans , they are just looking for some dignity, love, and companionship. Also like many of us, shelter pets are part of the disenfranchised. Not all, but many are part of the unlucky, strange, weird, and awesome outcasts just looking for a fair shake in this world. A little empathy goes a long way.
Sophie ended up at the shelter because her owner went to jail and that persons parents thought she was too good to not make sure she went to a home. They were right, she was too good. She deserved more than 5 years but the world felt otherwise. We did everything we could but in the end, the lymphoma she was diagnosed with was too aggressive for the treatments we tried.
She was so cuddly and sweet. No matter your mood she would snuggle up next to you and let you know that this world isn't so bad. She was more than that. Sophie was a world class seat thief, a connoisseur of fine dirt in which she napped on, and had a taste for only the cheapest of dog treats. More so she was family.
In this time of personal heartbreak I look to accomplish something positive, so here comes the shameless request. By the looks of it, there are currently 8 dogs waiting for adoption at the SPCA here in Fort Wayne, I would like to raise enough money to pay the adoption fees for them in her name. This is an effort to show some people the same joy and love that Sophie showed us. We are paying for one but are asking for help to come up with the rest. Any little  bit helps and goes a long way for something good. If you can't chip in financially if you could please share the GoFundMe link, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, sorry for the long and sad post. I hope your day is going great and I hope we made Sophie's life as great as she made ours.
