47 Furious Tails, Issue One:
A comic book re-telling of the Ako Incident

This campaign is being launched to help fund the creation of art for the first issue of my comic book.

Anyone donating  may elect to receive a digital copy of the comic.  (I will have to ask you for your email address to facilitate that).  Additional rewards are available for printed and signed copies.  (Physical copies will be signed and shipped by USPS.  Due to costs of international shipping I am only able to send those

The Ako Incident was a historic occurrence in Japan, where 47 devoted samurai plotted and extracted revenge for the death of their master, the daimyo Asano Naganori of Ako, against the shogunate official Kira.

These samurai plotted and waited for nearly two years before striking down Kira.  After realizing their revenge, they were allowed honorable deaths by seppaku.

They were interred at Sengaku-ji temple near Asano's tomb.  Every day people visit Sengaku-ji and pay their respects to these samurai.  The temple contains a museum where relics of these samurai, including the armor of Asano Naganori and armor and weapons of his loyal samurai, are held on display.

This comic book re-telling of the incident is based on historic accounts and literary sources.  Artist license has been take to portray these characters as various anthropomophic animals (squirrels, rabbits, monkeys, and foxes) and to fill in missing parts of the record with plausible story elements.

Your support will help to fund the art for issue one.

Poster Art created for our first crowdfunding attempt:

All art was created by comic book artist,
Alexia Veldhuisen, who is a graduate of the Kubert School.

Creating art for a comic book takes considerable time.  This issue represents approximately 190 hours of art time by Alexia.

This GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise the money for art, to make this book possible.

Please do support this comic book project to help me bring this incredible tale to the world in an exciting new way.

Any contribution is appreciated.  Please do share this campaign on social media channels to help me reach this goal.

I have built rewards for donations of $3 or more.  Those include digital or physical copies of the comic once it is released.

Anyone contributing at levels where physical copies are rewarded will have those copies signed by myself (the writer and publisher) as well as by Alexia Veldhuisen (the artist, colorist, and letterer).  Due to the high cost of internation shipping I can only ship physical copy to the United States, its territories, and/or Canada.

Issue one is 28 pages (interior pages) and done in full color.

This campaign is launched to fund the art and a small print run and is done in conjunction with other fund raising efforts.

Your questions and comments are welcome.
