Jason’s Journey

Most families have experienced some kind of tragedy. We all have loved ones who have been impacted, in one way or another, fighting for their children, spouses, parents & other family members. Right now, the VanBenschoten and Piraino families are praying that God is holding Jason and Bethany’s hands as they embark on this journey. On April 8th, Jason- husband, son, brother, friend, and most importantly, new Daddy-to-be, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, just as he & Bethany were beginning a new phase of their life, awaiting their first child, a son to be named Theodore Dean, “Teddy”. Both in their dream jobs, a beautiful home and so much in love, and then in one moment, their lives change forever. Jason spent two weeks in the ICU at St Luke’s in Utica after emergency surgery to remove the tumor. The decision was made to travel via ambulance to UPenn Medical Center, to eventually undergo treatments at the Abramson Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA,. Jason was moved to an off site Rehab facility for therapy until the cancer treatments begin. Alternate housing for them will need to be found again. We are all praying for his doctors and nurses; that God watches over them, too, as they treat Jason in these next weeks and months. Our hope is that Jason remains healthy and strong for his family, while he fights this, and that Bethany has a healthy pregnancy.and  She has not left her husband’s side for a moment and will be staying in Philadelphia with him for the entirety of his treatment. As a result of this, they are both out of work, away from home, and preparing for a baby in the midst of all of this. They will endure so many medical expenses, travel expenses, and changes in their life. Since our families began this journey, people have been asking what they can do and if they can help in someway. We always answer the same thing...please pray for them. However, with the relocation of Jason’s care and all of the expenses that come along with it, we started this GoFundMe account at the request of those that want to help. Jason and Bethany are very private and would not ask for anything, so we’re doing it for them. Every little bit helps and will go directly toward helping this little family of three grow stronger and healthier.
