Flood Damages

On January 13, 2018 we were evacuated from our home in Sylvan Beach, NY, by firemen due to a flash flood. Two ice jams formed in Fish Creek not allowing the water to flow properly backing it up at both ends. The temps went from 57 degrees the night before and heavy rain to -20F and lots of snow by 4am that morning. It all happened without warning and no time to prepare.
Although we thankfully still have a home we incurred damage to our den (addition), the shed, garage, fencing, and all the contents within these areas. We have flood insurance with a $2,000 deductible but it only covers structural damage not the contents in the areas damaged that need replacing.
Our immediate concern with flood damage is of course mold. I already suffer with 3 autoimmune diseases, which I am 100% disabled from and can not risk being exposed to mold.
We were informed to run heat and fans nonstop in the addition to try and dry it out. This will cost us a fortune in propane and electricity.
We cant even access the shed or parts under the home yet because we are literally encased in ice! So will know more when we thaw out.
Our second biggest concern is when we warm up this week it could cause a secondary flooding event because all that ice and two feet of snow that fell will have to go somewhere.
Bill, my hubby, is a Dessert Storm Veteran of the US Air Force and has worked for Turning Stone Casino now for 23 years. We are just making ends meet as it is and know this will be a long journey. To make matters more difficult I have CRPS/RSD, Fibromyalgia, and several severe spinal problems so our medical bills are high and I have very limited ability to assist my husband in the clean up process.
We we are so blessed and grateful to God for keeping us and our 3 fur babies safe throughout this ordeal and pray He will continue to do so. Friends have encouraged us to set this up so they could help ease the burden some.
We are appreciative of every penny we receive and will share exactly what the money was utilized for. If we have any donations left at the end we will be donating it to the Volunteer Sylvan Beach Fire Department, The Red Cross and Vienna United Methodist Church for all being there to help during the evacuation and the days following.
