Dear Friends.
On 1st of December I will be setting out with three other "Ice Warriors" from base camp in the Himalayas to complete the first ever winter ascent of Nanga Parbat. It is the team's 4th attempt. Last year one of the team reached 7400 metres; higher than anyone in the last 16 years.
For 10 years, I have photographed the exotic and the pathetic, from the jungles of the Amazon and the shifting sands of the Sahara to the drifting, homeless people of the sad world. As I went from place to place and witnessed the majestic beauty of our planet on one hand and the human misery on the other I began to realise that I am fulfilling my dream; to seek out the extreme and rare, bring it back as photographs and share the experience with others.
This expedition is the most difficult and demanding to date; I see now that I have trained hard all my life for this. By Dec 1st I will have completed nearly 6 months intensive technical training. I'll be ready.
If we succeed on Nanga Parbat there will inevitably be media interest, especially in Poland and Ireland. I don't do it for attention but if there is, it will give me a spotlight that I can focus on the spectacular beauty and the sadness that exists side by side in the world. I want to show that this beauty should be a cradle for happiness and not a backdrop to misery.
Sponsorship would be most welcome. Climbing at this level costs lots. A pair of boots would set you back €600. Flights, porters to base camp, equipment, equipment transfer, transport, permission fees; the list goes on and the expense, shared by the four man team will be considerable. Each donation, big or small, will mean much, much more to me than its monetary value.
All donations will be acknowledged with signed expedition photos and/or "Nanga Dream" T shirts.
