Abrielle's Fight Fund

I am writing this in the hopes that many will take the time to share this story and we can make a difference in our own backyard with one on my friends and her family. A derby sister and her ref husband, Tammy and Dougie Fountaine, (otherwise known in the derby community as (Slammy Con Paine and Acid Bath) lives were turned upside down on Friday, August 2nd 2013. In the finishing stages of planning a huge party to celebrate the birthdays of 2 of their 4 children's the next day. Abrielle, 5 and Autumn, 12 were to celebrate with their other siblings Ashton, 7 and Keaton, 4 with a big end of the summer family and friend event complete with a dunk tank and bonfire. I remember Tammy talking excitedly at practice about a special cake she was planning to make. All this was cut short as Abby or Abbers as she is affectionately called by her family came down with flu like symptoms that just were not easing up. Eventually she was rushed to the hospital and her body was shutting down fast and went into shock. It was touch and go that first terrifying night and they found a tumor on her liver and started running grueling tests and I will spare you all from the agony of even trying to relive what must and has been a living nightmare to come to the point of, well.....Abby... has... CANCER! This little sweet innocent 5 year old girl has Wilm's Tumor, a type of kidney cancer. They have started chemotherapy and she has lost her hair. How do you tell your 5 year old girl that she is going to lose all her golden long hair, how do you even explain that to someone so young? I remember when Tammy had this to say in one of her updates, after her daughter had been on a ventilator and tubes for a week... "Don't take for granted all your little one's voices and beautiful eyes and funny sayings because a week is WAY too long to not hear or see those." This one struck me, but of course every one of her postings has, because as a parent we cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through and all they are facing. This family has such a LONG struggle ahead of them. They run their own business that is fairly new and Tammy has really not left Abby's side so family is helping with the other children as Dougie must return to the family business to keep things going on that end. Many are helping with meals and such. This is a very strong and loving family and they will get through this but many others have thought and asked, "what can we do?" Well, I couldn't think of a more deserving family who could use help financially. The impact of something like this is life-altering on so many levels and if we can ease just a bit the financial impact, well then maybe they can get a little more rest, or spend a little more time together as a family and that is PRICELESS. I know, we all have our own expenses and things to worry about, but I must ask. PLEASE take a moment to think...this could be your child...this could be your nightmare. Please donate anything and everything that you can and let's help make Abby's recovery a little easier. She turns 6 on August 29th and I can't think of any better way to wish her a Happy Birthday!
