While teaching a class this semester, this message popped up in a class discussion:
Hello, I made a group called Giving Back cause I thought I could make a chat with all of you guys. But it didn’t work out. But anyways, so I made it cause for Hanukkah I wanted my gift to buy a bunch of socks, scarves, gloves, blankets, etc. and go to NYC to give it to homeless people for the winter. I would go before the winter gets really bad so they can be prepared for the winter. I was wondering if any of you wanted to participate and come with me to NYC to give all of these warm clothes to the homeless? Just let me know!! Thanks
I've been teaching English and writing for 20 years and occasionally we get onto the topic of how we can each use our light to contribute to the world and to add value to the lives of others. So when we get called, I think we should answer. And so with finals, grades, and academic commitments behind us, we have decided to join forces as friends on a mission to "give back," committed to touching the lives of others for a day, and hopefully for longer. Will you help me help us make this Hanukkah wish come true?
All funds raised will go towards the purchase of hats, scarves, blankets, and socks for the homeless. We will be traveling to NYC to pass out gift bags and connect with people who are facing homelessness on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
According to the Bowery Mission, the #1 tip for helping the homeless is to "Acknowledge and Engage."
Thank you so much for all of your support!
