Where do we start? This is all about the sweetest, most precious soul that I have ever known.
The Story
Melissa was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in March, 2014. Against the odds, she was declared cancer free in December of the same year. Unfortunately cancer wasn't through with her yet and she received the news that it was back on May 1, 2017. The diagnosis is Stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized throughout her skeletal system. She went though a spinal stabilization surgery on May 5 in which the doctors placed rods in both upper arms, and her left femur. A tumor was removed from her pelvis and replaced with cement. While there is no cure for her diagnosis, she will be undergoing radiation to strengthen the bones and taking an oral chemo with the hope that it slows the cancer down.
Our Hope
The goal through all of this is to provide quality of life and to ensure her happiness and security. Melissa has dedicated her life to others as a nurse and will no longer be able to work in that role. Her wish is to be able to stay in her modest, rental mountain home in the Beech Community near Asheville, North Carolina, and enjoy each and every day to the best of her ability. This latest diagnosis was totally unexpected and Melissa needs our help this time. Being a single woman, her income was the only income and that will no longer be coming in.
