3rd and 4th Grade Boys Running Club

Located in Ward 8 of Washington D.C., KIPP DC: Heights Academy strives to provide the children of historically underserved community of Anacostia the best educational and afterschool opportunities possible. I am hoping to secure funding to start a running club for the 3rd and 4th grade boys at my school. This program is an opportunity to build confidence and character and build healthy life habits that will last a lifetime. We will practice once a week and the practices will focus on building life skills but becoming better runners at the same time. Our life skills building curriculum will come from a program called "HERO Boys Run Club" which requires a $50 registration fee per boy and $20 for our culminating 5k race. We have had an overwhelming response of interest and hope to open the program to 30 boys across the two grades for a total of $2,100. In order to fully train and implement the curriculum to fidelity we will need to start our club on April 4th.  Sports are such a great way to expose kids to critical thinking situations and help them build character so I hope we are able to make that happen for our boys.
