Hi all,
Most of our friends and family know that Thomas, who turns 6 in August, is our unique little boy, who we love so much.
Since his birth he has had health complications as a result of his genetic condition PKU, this has meant that as a family we have learned to manage and adjust to hospital trips and blood tests to give him the best quality childhood. PKU is a condition that see's the body unable to break down protein and as a result this can lead to brain damage.
Thomas is also diagnosed with Autism and has since getting older and stronger, become dangerous at bed time. Not being able to naturally fall asleep and only sleeping roughly 4-6 hours a night, Thomas becomes frustrated and he has begun self harming by hitting and kicking the walls, doors and windows in his bedroom as well as hitting and biting himself.
Thomas is non-verbal and has no awareness of danger and is always on the go. This has a big impact on our family and his 2 siblings.
We are seeking help to raise the funds needed to get him a safe space bed for his room. This is a much needed piece of equipment and will prevent Thomas from harming or endangering himself. In addition this will make the whole families quality of life better as we can get the much needed rest to handle his developmental delays and his siblings will be able to have undisturbed sleep.
