Kiara’s surgery

About two months ago my service dog, Kiara, was exercising when she suddenly started limping. It wasn’t severe limping or anything, but I took her to the vet regardless. The vet told me to just monitor her leg, let her rest, and if it got better it was likely just a strained muscle. So that’s what I did. For a few weeks she got no exercise and I allowed her to do very little besides just walk and her limp went away. I thought we were in the clear so I resumed her exercise and then a few days ago she began to limp again. Today I took her to the vet and learned she has ruptured her CCL (this is her knee and equivalent to an ACL tear in humans). I felt horrible because all of this time she has been in pain but I’m just happy we were able to diagnose it before it got any worse. She has to get surgery otherwise she will face years of problems and complications with her knee.... She is scheduled for surgery on June 17th or earlier depending on if anyone cancels before then.  She is not even allowed to go up or down stairs for a very long time and cannot run or have any exercise for months and is going to have to spend a great deal of time resting which will be hard for a 1 year old puppy who has an extreme amount of energy and since we are such an active family it will be a huge adjustment for all of us.  Our surgery estimate is between $4000-$5000 not including physical therapy and anything she may need post-surgery.
