Steph Curry Challenge for Haiti

Donation protected

My video covers most of the details, but this is my personal effort, as a 40-yr. old father-of-4, (living in Thornfield, MO) to engage in a friendly basketball 3-point challenge (20 shots) with the NBA's Stephen Curry.    What's the catch?  Watch the video!  =)

Why?   To raise money for the dire and tremendous need in southern Haiti, resulting from recent Hurricane Matthew. Many in that part of the country are just struggling to survive (food & water).

All of the reports that I have gotten from those living in farming villages, including our friends in the villages of Peredo and DuPont (amongst others), tell me that all of the gardens are under feet of water and all of the banana trees have been uprooted (we are talking rice, bean, corn...all their staple foods). And any fruit or vegetables that did survive are being stolen. Many houses were either destroyed by the wind or swept into the ocean. We currently know of 45 houses in the villages of Marigot and Peredo that need serious repair, and are waiting for help. The flooding has killed (drowned) many of the animals (dogs, goats, pigs, chickens, etc.), and thus the death in the flood waters will undoubtedly lead to dysentery, cholera, etc. This will require medicine, IV fluids, and salt tablets.

The people that we have spoken to are discouraged and desperate and it breaks our hearts. To make matters even worse, one of the bridges that exists on the road from Port au Prince to Jacmel, national route #2, was completely destroyed by the wind and debris. So, Sud Est, is isolated from Port au Prince as travel to the South from the capital is now impossible until the bridge is repaired.

The charity I have in view is charis4haiti.com, which is a fabulous "no frills" charity/ministry directed by Malcolm Henderson, who I consider a trustworthy and personal friend.    Malcolm is a "warrior for the people of Haiti," and he is doing an amazing work there.   One thing I especially appreciate about him is that he's very responsible and wise in that he doesn't just give "hand-outs" to whoever asks, but endeavors to make the donated funds go as far as possible, and to the neediest people first.

Per the location of the 3-point contest, I'm willing to either drive or fly to wherever necessary, or of course Steph Curry is welcome to compete on my home court (as seen in the video), here in Missouri!   =)

Every dollar given will be donated to the physical needs of these desperate and courageous Haitians.  I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you would even consider giving to this effort.   I hope to go back to Haiti soon and serve these wonderful and yet needy people.  If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Also,  for anyone interestd in getting a tax write off, I would be glad to e-mail you Charis4Haiti’s 501c3 exemption letter from the IRS.  If you were to give (hypothetically), I would then send you an e-mail (paper trail) thanking you for the gift, etc. I’ve been told by our accountant that such would be sufficient, as the director of the charity/ministry will withdraw the money directly ...but really only necessary for gifts over $250.

Thank you for even considering a gift!
