Hi! My name is Alexander, and I'm a 19 year old trans man. I am a sophomore at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, studying theater and education. I have been out for five years, and am currently doing everything that I can to work on finishing my transition. I am currently working with endocrinologist Heather Greenburg, MD on hormone replacement therapy, which I have been taking since July 3, 2018.
The total of this goes into legal fees requiring me to change my name, get new legal documents, go through needed surgeries, and continue to pay for visits to Dr. Greenburg and the hormones she will be prescribing.
My family is under financial hardships, and has been for most of my life, and I would rather feed my siblings than use that money for myself. I hate to turn to the kindness of strangers, but I feel like this is the best place for me to go.
I currently have a job, but the income is small ($60/week) and already used for medical expenses.
At this point in my life, I am in desperate need for this treatment for the sake of my mental and physical health, as these complications bring extreme anxiety and depression. I am fortunate to have a solid support system in my friends, but without funds I am stuck. I am also fortunate to have health insurance that covers a majority of the health centered costs of this, but the copay for surgery is still costly and the hormone payments will add up.
