Davis Family Medical & Family Need

Dear reader,

My name is Jim Lynch and I'm reaching out to friends, family, church members and anyone that could lend financial support on a long-term basis for a good friend of mine that is suffering from the debilitating disease known as Lyme’s. The plan is simple and it incorporates many people coming together on a monthly basis making small financial contributions in order to see my friend and her family through the financial burden of beating Lyme’s disease; a disease that threatens to take my friends life and has bankrupt her family.

My friends name is Deborah and she has been battling Lyme’s since the fall of 2012. During this time of illness, Deborah's health and treatment has been that of a roller coaster with ups, downs and sharp turns experienced on a daily basis.

In the fall of 2012 Deborah Davis, a bright energetic God-honoring teen came home from a Scouting camping trip and life has not been the same since.  Deborah developed a "flu-like" illness that was misdiagnosed as strep.  A few weeks later, a peculiar rash developed and then a host of other symptoms followed over the next six-months which landed her in bed with severe fatigue, an inability to walk, unbearable headaches, dizziness nausea, severe light and noise sensitivity and organ pain. Deborah was forced to quit all of her activities, which included: her senior year of high school (where she had been in the running to be the valedictorian), Co-Ed Boy Scouts, Youth Praise Team/Ensemble, an annual church sponsored Passion Play, Varsity Soccer and Cross Country and volunteer activities at family homeless shelters.

The next year was spent traveling all over the State of Florida to different specialists who all disagreed as to what was causing her medical condition.  After pursuing long term IV antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease, Deborah's symptoms melted away quickly and she started to walk again!  She started back to school, was attending church and going out for coffee with friends!  She was weak but life was good!

Then came the day when the skillful Doctor who treated Deborah retired and the new doctors though they tried could not get the same skillful results. Within 4 months the symptoms and fatigue started to worsen again.  She woke up on Christmas morning with a facial palsy; her walking eroded and she landed back in a wheelchair.  The problems worsened with the inability to swallow fluids without choking and the inability to use her hands to write etc.  Cognitive changes followed that mirror dementia with Debra not recognizing family members or her pets, getting confused etc.

Unable to find a doctor in the State of Florida to take on her case Deborah has traveled as far away as New York and Washington D.C. for help. Deborah now has a VERY skilled doctor out of state to take on her case.  He has an excellent track record in healing patients just like Deborah.  The biggest problem is that the IV antibiotic therapy which will not be covered by any insurance will run $4000-$7000 a month for over a year!

Adding to the financial burden is the fact that Deborah's dad abandoned the family over a year ago and provides no financial support for his daughter. Deborah's mom Candace has provided care and medical oversight for Deborah and her siblings amidst this medical crisis. Candace is a God fearing woman that asks for no help. She has exhausted all family savings and qualifies for little to no financial help with Deborah's condition. Insurance provides only a small amount of assistance and her ability to work has been challenged with the additional care that Deborah requires throughout the day. There is a laundry list of items that need to be fixed or repaired within the their home and the vehicle that she drives should really be replaced.

Last year I joined together with men from my church and headed up providing assistance in replacing the tile within Deborah's home, which not only improved the air quality but lifted everyone’s spirits. Though she could barely walk, Deborah hobbled out to the living room one night and explained how much she appreciated the help and couldn’t believe the look and feel of the new flooring. Seeing her like this brought us men to tears and we knew we were where God intended us to be at that very moment in time. This year we plan to upgrade a wore out air conditioning system and install new ducting to ensure the cleanest air possible within the home.

I have been involved in several campaigns over the years to raise funds for special needs but never at this level. What needs to happen is for many of us that can afford to give up the cost a single meal out, or a Friday night movie or a few coffees…for however long it takes to get Debra back on her feet. I’m not asking for you to financially pledge anything that would burden your own family but for a little discretionary money every month.  I also need your help in getting the message out to others that can help us reach our goals of raising a minimum of $8,000 per month for a family that has run out of money, run out of energy and is running out of hope.

We need prayer warriors that will remember Deborah morning and night and will present Debra’s needs to God and ask for His love, mercy and intervention.  We need prayers for Deborah in the healing of her body and prayers for Candace for wisdom and godly directed oversight in finding her daughter the right medical treatment. We need prayers for the Holy Spirit to dwell mightily within the souls of the Davis family and deliver peace and comfort to them all during this time of crisis. And we need prayers that God would bring together an army of small monthly contributors that will stay the course and see the mission of returning Deborah back to the once vibrant and loving girl we all know and love.

“But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?”
