Michael Laflamme's fight with Cancer
My name is Marie-Josée Bolduc from Québec, I started this fundraiser to help my son Michael get the chemotherapy that he needs. It's really important that he starts as soon as possible. I am Michael's caregiver therefore take care of all his medical expenses so all amounts raised through this fundraiser will go towards buying the chemo medication and any other medical expenses that he might need.
Most of you know that Mike has been fighting Cancer for a while now, he was diagnosed in April 2013 at the age of 19 with Ewing's Sarcoma Cancer. Ewing's sarcoma is a very rare form of Bone Cancer, 3 in a million, that affects mostly teenagers.Michael went through his first protocol of chemo from April through November 2013, 14 rounds of chemo every other week and 6 weeks of radiation at the same time. He was finally in remission but 6 months later, in May 2014, we found out he had his first relapse. So he started chemo again and this time it lasted 1 whole year, one week of treatments every 3 weeks for a year. Then a bone marrow transplant that finally puts him in remission one more time. Just as he's starting to live his life normally again in January 2016, at his 6 months scans, we find out that the Cancer is back again and he had to start all over. This time the treatments were a little rougher on Michael, he ended up in intensive care for 2 weeks and had to have dialysis to help his kidney function come back to normal. We have recently found out that the chemo he is on right now is not working as we had hoped and once more he has to change chemo protocol.
His doctor referred him to the Jewish Hospital in Montreal to see which clinical trials are available to him, right now there are no clinical trials open for his type of cancer but there could be in the near future. In the mean time, his doctor wants to start a new chemotherapy that is in pill form that he will be able to take at home and will not be covered by the RAMQ, which is extremely expensive, more than $4,000/month. This is the reason we set up the GoFund me account, so any help we can get will be greatly appreciated and will be one less stress throughout Michael's treatments.
Michael has always been strong and impressed his doctors throughout all these years, he is always ready to keep on fighting even with all the setbacks he had...he doesn't even take the time to think about it. With a big smile, he always says, let's go, i'm ready to do whatever it takes. He is our super hero and the bravest person we know having gone through everything he has, and all this without ever complaining about anything ....

Levée de fonds pour aider Michael Laflamme à recevoir la chimiothérapie dont il a besoin. C'est très important, il doit commencer sont traitement le plus rapidement possible.
La pluparts d’entre vous savent que Michael se bat contre un Cancer depuis un certain temps maintenant. Il a été diagnostiqué en avril 2013 à l’âge de 19 ans avec un Sarcome d’Ewing, un Cancer des os très agressif qui affecte 3 personnes sur 1 million. C’est un Cancer pédiatrique qui affecte surtout les adolescents.
Michael a suivi son premier protocole de chimiothérapie d’avril à novembre 2013, il a reçu 14 cycles qui étaient une semaine sur deux ainsi que 6 semaines de radiothérapie en même temps. Après tout ça il était finalement en rémission mais après 6 mois, en mai 2014, il a fait sa première rechute. Il a recommencé un nouveau protocole de chimio, cette fois ci pendant 1 an, une semaine de chimio à tous les 3 semaines. Après ces 18 cycles de chimio il a une greffe de cellules souches, qui encore une fois le remet en rémission. Juste comme Michael recommence à vivre normalement, en janvier 2016 a ses tests de 6 mois, nous apprenons de sa deuxième rechute. Cette fois ci les traitements sont plus difficiles sur Michael, après son premier cycle, il se ramasse aux soins intensifs pendant 2 semaines. Il a même dû avoir de la dialyse pour que ses reins reviennent à leurs fonctions normales. Récemment nous avons appris que la chimiothérapie qu’il reçoit présentement ne fait pas effet comme on aurait souhaité, alors encore une fois il doit changer de protocole.
Son docteur l’avait référé à l’Hôpital Juive de Montréal pour voir ce qui pourrait être disponible pour lui, présentement il n’y a aucunes études cliniques de disponible pour son type de Cancer, mais il pourrait en avoir dans le futur. Entre temps son médecin veut commencer une nouvelle chimiothérapie qui se prend en capsule à la maison et n’est pas couvert par la RAMQ et qui est très dispendieuse, plus de $4,000/mois. C’est pour cette raison que nous avons ouvert un compte GoFund Me. Donc toute l’aide que nous pouvons recevoir serait grandement appréciée et sera un stress de moins durant les traitements de Michael.
Michael a toujours été fort à travers tous ces épreuves et a toujours impressionné ses médecins, il est toujours prêt à recommencer le combat sans jamais même y penser, il est prêt à faire tout ce qu'il faut.
Il est notre Super-héro et la personne la plus brave que nous connaissons à subir tout ceci pendant des années…
