A Second Chance at Life
It is often said that strength is the product of the struggle, but sometimes the situations that life presents are simply too big to conquer on your own. Nearly 10 years ago, my son, Kyle, was on top of the world. He had a great job, was in a loving relationship and he enjoyed spending time with family and a wide circle of friends. At the height of it all, he came home to find his spouse, lifeless by suicide. Six months later, his father took his own life. Then, a few short months after that, his grandfather passed. The magnitude of such loss would lead many people to shut down completely. At the time, Kyle carried on and devoted his energy and talents to helping others. Most notably, Kyle got involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) of Greater San Francisco, where he even served on the chapter’s board of directors. But in late 2012, these traumatic experiences, coupled with the weight of his grief became too much to bear, leading Kyle to attempt to take his own life. When we found Kyle, he was rushed to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition for 48 hours.Since that time, he has struggled to put the pieces of his life back together. As his mother, it has been incredibly hard to watch Kyle’s unexpected shift from being a professional to being homeless. I am helping Kyle battle his way back and make a fresh start, but we can’t do it alone. That’s why I am hoping that you will consider helping me to grant Kyle-someone who has given so much to his family, friends, colleagues and our community -the chance to live again.
The funds raised through this campaign will be utilized for housing and continued therapy for Kyle, giving him the opportunity to build a life filled with hope and happiness and put the pain of his past behind him.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Gratefully,
Gerri
