Alex’s Army

10 days ago, our son Alex Fague, age 22, had a”routine” heart surgery that has turned into anything but.  We thought we would be coming back in Alabama by now, but we are here for a
long time. The day after his successful surgery, his heart ruptured and he had blood clots that “showered” his brain. He was put into a coma to help keep the stroke and seizure possibility down but, he has significant damage.  They have been trying to bring him out of sedation. He’s had a difficult time and remains on a ventilator. He did try to cry when he saw me yesterday and you could hear his cry over his ventilator and you could tell he wanted to reach out and try to hug me.  I told him to quit trying, I’d hug him and I did...but I had to hug his foot.  We have lots to share and we are working on a caring bridge page to do it.  We do post the updates we can for now on Facebook, because that is what this mom knows how to use. Right now we have a room at the Yawkey Family Inn. It is housing for families whose children have had open heart surgery. It is a Boston Children’s Hospital program and it has given us such peace of mind since we have very limited funds and didn’t even think we’d stay this long.  It’s only $30.00 a night and people have been offering to help. So we have swallowed a bit of pride and set up some funding options so Alex’s Army will know where the money goes and how much a difference it is making in our lives.  Even when Alex eventually discharges from Boston Children’s he will have to remain in Boston for a long time.  His dad, Jonathan, and myself will walk the baby steps with him.  We may have to travel back and forth to Alabama because we do have 3 other kids that need us too.  We never planned for this.  Just navigating heart family housing, meals, getting to and from the hospital without a car here, basic incidentals have become financially overwhelming.   Any assistance you can provide will help us.  Even $5.00 will help more than you can ever know that’s why we have added this account so Alex’s Army can feel this is a good option for them.  We also need get well  and cards of support.  We humbly accept and thank you in advance for just reaching out to us. Feel free to write, call or text us because we do get the messages and read every one. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask us!  I hope this Go Fund Me has allowed Alex’s Army to feel more comfortable that this is reliable.  We love all of you. Please get the word out at your church, your work, your gym and wherever you go that you have a friend who needs some support and prayers. Please keep building Alex’s Army!
