Brain Surgery Fund For My Dad

About 12 years ago, my father was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which is a progressive neurologic disorder that affects the brain and its ability to communicate with the body's musculoskeletal system. In the early years following his diagnosis, he was still able to work and function in a relatively normal manner while taking his medications. But now, after many years of taking them, his body's tolerance to them has become so great that they no longer relieve his symptoms. For this reason, he is no longer able to work or drive and is now on disability. He is scheduled to have a procedure known as Deep Brain Stimulation done. The purpose of the procedure is to install electrodes in the brain which send controlled electrical impulses to certain areas of the brain. The hope is that this will control most of the symptoms of Parkinson's without the use of medications. Now if that sounds like a complicated and expensive procedure, that's because it is. Insurance covers some, but not all of the costs. For that reason, my sister Julie and I are creating this page to raise funds to help pay for the remaining cost of the procedure which totals $15,000 along with another $5,000 to help cover the many office visits required post-surgery. Any little bit donated helps, and my family and I would be forever grateful for any assistance. Thank you!
