Alexandria "Ally" is a survivor! She survived being dumped at a kill shelter and even more triumphant, she survived Parvo. Now she is fighting for her life again. A few short weeks ago she was at the vet on IV fluids battling Giardia which is not normally fatal, but due to a compromised immune system, most likely as an after affect of Parvo, her body is unable to fight off infections that normal healthy dogs are able to fend off. Ally was sent home after one week at the vet, weak but in good spirits. Once again, due to her inadequate immune system, her body began to fight itself and she broke out with demodex mange. Easily treated, but uncomfortable for poor Ally. For one week she was at home and acting like a typically puppy - running, chewing, playing. And then out of nowhere she became lethargic and had a high fever. The foster immediately rushed her to the vet and she will remain there until we feel it's safe to release her. The current battle is Pyothorax which is an infection in the chest cavity. Pus in the chest cavity results in scarring and impaired lung function. It's quite serious and can be fatal if not treated promptly and aggressively. The vet is trying everything and she will remain under observation and care. As you can imagine, the vet bill is quite costly. Donations would be greatly appreciated to help with her continued care and her fight for her life.Alexandria will be available for adoption once she has recuperated http://www.ehrdogs.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=10855230

Even on a cloudy day it's always a sunny day for me. I survived parvo, mange, anorexia and giardia. I spent numerous overnights at the animal hospital. Many months later I'm a happy thriving one year old!!! My favorite vet says I'm doing awesome and has offered to continue to be my primary vet for a secret fee. I have learned so much in my foster home. My foster mom says I must go to a home where she knows I will be given special attention. She walked the floors with me many nights and has me on a small dosage of Prednisone to treat my auto immune condition. I'm bouncy, happy, extremely social and most importantly I'm alive. I know love and I give love freely. My happy tail is always on overdrive. I have a potential forever home. My initial meet and greet went well and extended play date included napping on the couch and belly rubs. Since my foster mom loves this home I know if she approves that I'm going to be safe and loved unconditionally. I will keep you posted on my journey.

I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is, I have had a few emergencies whereby my foster mom had to rush me to the vet. But the good news is, This past week I have had no emergencies and I am acting like a typical puppy! I desperately want to go play with my friends and go on walks, but for the time being I'm still the puppy in the plastic bubble!

Unfortunately Ally had to be rushed to the vet this morning. They are keeping her overnight. She is unable to use her back legs and is lethargic and has a high fever. The vet explained to us that her auto immune disease is attacking her spine. He will give her a course of antibiotics as well as steroids. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Ally continues to fight for her life. We are very very worried.
